Introducing MP3 SELECTS, our weekly rundown of new EDM music and our updated playlists on Spotify. Check out this week’s round up below:

GRiZ — “Knucklepuck”

Multi-instrumental artist, producer, and philanthropist GRiZ has shared his new Ouroboros EP which serves as his final release ahead of his upcoming hiatus. After seven albums, countless collaborations, and over a decade of non-stop touring, GRiZ’s upcoming hiatus sees the beloved electronic artist taking a step back while continuing to be a role model for positivity and mental wellbeing.

A testament to the bright, funkadelic soundscapes that have made GRiZ one of electronic music’s most celebrated and inspiring artists, Ouroboros is a treasure trove of blissful cuts and rose-colored beats. Rounding through 20-minutes of warm spoken word samples and whimsically heady production, Ouroboros is an eight-track collection of GRiZ’s groovy rhythms, uplifting melodies, and iconic saxophone solos. “Knucklepuck” is a grand standout on the EP, tapping ProbCause for attention-grabbing vocals and old-school styled 90s electro-hip-hop.

Alongside the release comes a full-length video, offering an emotive snapshot into GRiZ’s life on the road throughout Summer 2023 as he concluded the final leg of festival appearances and tour dates. Though marking the end of an era, Ouroboros is a celebration of GRiZ’s long lasting impact on the electronic music community, and the start of a new chapter for Grant Kwiecinski.

Honeyluv, NEZ — “Let’s Get Sexy”

Rising underground icon Honeyluv and Chicago house artist NEZ have teamed up for a saucy new collaboration, “Let’s Get Sexy.” As the name implies, the track is a seduction and sensual house cut, blending up high-energy production full of rhythmic basslines, four-on-the-floor percussion, and cheeky lyricism. It’s undeniably groovy and flirty, leaving us begging for more from the two producers.

Continuing to garner attention far and wide for her talents on and off stage, “Let’s Get Sexy” arrives ahead of Amsterdam Dance Event, where HoneyLuv will be an official panelist and performer.

Polo & Pan — “Nagori”

Following a string of remixes and collaborations earlier this year, revered “French Touch” duo Polo & Pan have dropped their new Carrossel Do Tempo EP. Out via Virgin Music/Hamburger/Ekleroshock, the four-track collection sees the pair of producers open up their style to new global sounds, inviting listeners to a sonic exploration full of worldly creative drift, diverse cultural arrangements, and funky, suave grooves. The EP’s closer “Nagori” – which is referenced by the Japanese word for a transient melancholy feeling – is a breezy, toe-tapping charmer, evoking languid poolside hangouts, something most of us are relishing as we begin to close out the final warm days of the year.

Mija, Cakes da Killa, Wreckno — “I WANNA BE A BIG STAR”

Mija has teamed up with Cakes da Killa and Wreckno for the new single, “I WANNA BE A BIG STAR.” Inspired by ballroom culture and the documentary film Paris Is Burning, “I WANNA BE A BIG STAR” is the final single off of Mija’s NO RULES EP. The track summons the spirit of freedom, self-expression, and the unwavering celebration of life as old-school vocal samples and sharp-tongued lyrics from Cakes Da Killa and Wreckno complement Mija’s classic throwback sound design. It’s something you can undeniably dance to, and yet could be something you can cry to (since a dirty house drops cry cures everything).

Mija will see a busy end of the year, trekking across the U.S. in Denver, San Francisco, Chicago, Nashville, Buffalo, and more in support of her EP.

a.k.a. skips — “F.M.T.D.”

SF-bred/LA-based underground rave producer a.k.a. skips (previously known as Ducky) has released his final new single preceding his forthcoming EP, titled “F.M.T.D.” With a provocative title that stands for “fuck me to death,” the song is a raucous techno banger that bursts with unhindered sexuality and confident energy – a combination that reflects an artist fully out of their shell and breaking free of dominant norms.

a.k.a. skips is now revving up towards his debut EP, Jawfiller, due out November 8th. Having already established a vintage, brooding rave sound, Jawfiller promises to showcase a diverse collection of tracks that push a.k.a. skips into new sonic directions while retaining his core mission: to push the boundaries of dance music through an unapologetically queer lens.
